Wodzimierz Funika, Institute of Computer Science AGH Recent Advances in Building Interactive Grid Environment The objective of the EU IST Interactive European Grid (int.eu.grid) project is to deploy an advanced Grid empowered infrastructure in the European Research Area. The infrastructure is specifically oriented to support the execution of interactive demanding applications, ensuring interoperability with existing large e-Infrastructures like EGEE by providing basic common middleware services; the project exploits the expertise generated by the EU IST CrossGrid project to provide researchers with an interactive and simultaneous access to large distributed facilities. CYFRONET, Institute of Computer Science AGH, and IFJ PAN are focusing on using the interactive grid environment to support processing of data coming from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The amount of data generated by the detector requires an implementation of a multi-stage filtering system (HEP application) to select only those interactions which may be interesting for physics phenomena studies. In order to solve the issue of filtering, we are developing tools to support smart distribution of tasks to remote sites taking into account both the current status of network and computation nodes. We discuss the architecture of the grid solution for the HEP application: middleware elements supporting the functioning of the application, HEP-specific Virtual Organization, and monitoring facilities used for making decisions by the dispatcher task.
