Jakub Dziwisz(1) and Kuba Rozkwitalski(2) (1) ACC CYFRONET AGH (2) GridwiseTech Virtual Organisations for Open Grids and Shibboleth Security in grid computing has recently become a more and more important subject. This is due to at least two reasons. The first one is the adoption of grid solutions in a commercial environment where security is an issue of utmost importance. The other one is the fact that grids are becoming very complex systems as they federate resources from a large number of administrative domains. Traditional approaches are inadequate and there is a demand for new paradigms and solutions for grid security results in a significant. Very often experts in VO cannot reach an agreement, not to mention regular users. In this lecture we aim to describe new challenges for grid security and to present the most promising concepts and solutions in this area. One of the most interesting solution is Shibboleth, and therefore it will be described in details. Shibboleth is a middleware package enabling inter-institutional Single-Sign-On. It allows sites to make informed authorization decisions based on attributes for individual access of protected online resources in a privacy-preserving manner. Pros and cons will be discussed as well as examples of real-world application. The lecture will be concluded by some remarks on further improvements to the framework.
